Strong together
by interdisciplinary research

Institutes & Workgroups

The 7 institutes with different specialisations complement each other in an interdisciplinary way and conduct joint research into solutions for the conservation of resources for future generations and optimised food production.

With the Cluster of Excellence "PhenoRob - Robotics and Phenotyping for Sustainable Crop Production"1, the only Cluster of Excellence on agriculture in Germany, research into new methods and technologies is being conducted together with the Jülich Research Centre. This involves using sensor systems to observe and analyse plants in order to better understand them and treat them in a targeted manner. These are substantial steps towards more productive, resource-efficient and sustainable crop cultivation - with the aim of reducing the ecological footprint of agriculture, preserving the quality of soil and farmland and identifying the best ways to introduce new technologies.

The The Collaborative Research Centre 1502 "DETECT"2 aims to improve our understanding of regional climate change beyond the greenhouse gas impact. The focus here is on how changes in land use and water management as drivers of climate change can influence the modification of the water cycle. It is essential to complete the picture of local climate change factors, in addition to CO2 and other greenhouse gases, by considering these important channels.
