Bachelor of Science Nutrition and Food Sciences

High-quality food for the health of people and the environment! The goal of a sustainable and high-quality diet for the growing world population requires a rethink of how food has been produced to date. Modern forms of teaching and learning are used to discover the nutritional, food science and economic connections for sustainable food systems of the future.

The Bachelor's degree course in Nutrition and Food Sciences is a basic and interdisciplinary degree course that covers a wide range of subjects in nutritional sciences, food sciences and the economics of the agricultural and food sector.

  • How can the nutrition of a growing world population be ensured?
  • What does a needs-based and balanced diet look like in different life situations?
  • How can high-quality food be produced sustainably and safely?

These are central research topics in nutrition and food science in Bonn. Based on scientific principles, the effects of food ingredients on the human organism are explored and research is carried out into how diet-related diseases can be influenced by dietary patterns. The sustainable production of high-quality food is analyzed in order to supply a growing world population with scarce resources in the future. Consumer behavior is analyzed in order to find out how the transformation to a sustainable food system can succeed.

Thanks to the close links between nutritional science, food technology and economics in Bonn, these diverse, current and socially relevant topics are studied in a holistic scientific manner.
